Transformations
Transformations of objects task.
The objects I chose to transform were 7 specimen £20 notes. Although presented in two dimensions here they could be folded and stood up to create 3D items. The reason behind choosing notes was that they are universally identical and almost everyone has seen or held them. Despite this whenever I look in depth at a note you notice small patterns, engravings or markings that I hadn't noticed before. I thought they would be a fun object to apply transformations
- Arrangement I -
Randomly placed aiming to give each note equal significance, however the central note seems to draw attention due to its different colour and central position.
- Fragmentation -
I sliced up and stuck a second note over the first breaking the regular pattern and giving it a shattered/fragmented look.
- Asymmetric -
I simply stuck a second note over the first breaking any symmetrical or regular patterns on the note.
- Abstraction -
To abstract the £20 note I stuck sections of a £10 note to make it unclear what note it is supposed to be and ruin the purpose of the note.
- Distortion -
In this transformation I wanted to distort and break the note as much as possible using sliced up sections of another £20 note altering the queens face and breaking up regular patterns on the note.
- Subtraction -
To subtract from the note i simply removed what is possibly the most recognisable and significant part of the note, the queens face.
- Addition -
Like subtraction I used the queens face and added another on the note.
- Symmetrical -
To make the note symmetrical I sliced two notes at the same point and stuck them together making two diagonal lines of symmetry.
- Arrangement II -
The second arrangement I decided on was a fan of money, simply as a humorous layout, as if someone was offering useless money as payment.
